ACT Program

The Yellow Brick Foundation is happy to announce we will be expanding the           ACT-Raising Safe Kids Program with the help of TJ Max and Marshalls.  They         provided funding to have more facilitators trained and certified in 2017!

The Yellow Brick Foundation has certified facilitators offering the ACT Raising Safe Kids program for Parents and Caregivers.  ACT stands for Adults and Children Together.  The program is aimed at helping parents help children grow and learn through positive interactions.

The basis of the ACT Program is to provide training for parents, educators, caregivers and children on how to respond in a non-violent/non-aggressive way to conflict. It helps the adults and the children learn how to stop and think before reacting to a negative situation so they may respond in a positive, non-judgmental way. The goal is to build strong safe families without violence and protect them from its terrible consequences.

Session topics include:

A Pre-Session with a Motivational Interview & Goal Setting Exercises

  • Session 1 – Understanding Your Children’s Behavior
  • Session 2 – Young Children’s Exposure to Violence
  • Session 3 – Understanding and Controlling Parents’ Anger
  • Session 4 – Understanding and Helping Angry Children
  • Session 5 – Children and Electronic Media
  • Session 6 – Discipline and Parenting Styles
  • Session 7 – Discipline for Positive Behaviors
  • Session 8 – Taking the ACT Raising Safe Kids Program with You

A Post-Session with an Awards Ceremony & Celebration

The training is not a parenting class teaching adults how to be better parents; though this is often an outcome. Rather, it is facilitated like a small group where participants share experiences, consider options and determine for themselves manageable ways to deal with conflict.
